The 5th International Competition "The Best Young Metrologist of COOMET"

From 11 to 13 June, 2013, in PTB (Braunschweig, Gernany), was held the 5-th International Competition "The Best Young Metrologist of COOMET-2013", in which participated 25 young specialists from 16 National Metrology Institutes (NMIs) of 13 countries representing 4 Regional Metrology Organizations (RMO) : Australia, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzogovina, Bulgaria, Denmark, Germany, Ghana, Italy, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Russia, Ukraine and Uzbekistan.

The subjects of the participants' scientific and research papers covered three main groups of metrology areas:

  • Measurement assurance of modern technologies
  • Development and improvement of measurement standards, methods and instruments used for dissemination of units
  • Metrological provision of topical problems of economy and social service.
The winner of the competition, to whom the title of the "Best young metrologist-2013" was conferred for achievements in scientific and applied metrological activities and for the contribution to development of cooperation among regional metrology organizations was Ms. Elena Ermakova, researcher from VNIIM (D.I. Mendeleyev Institute of Metrology) who represented in this competition the RMO "Asia Pacific Metrology Program" (APMP). The subject of her work was "Improving the system of metrological assurance in bomb calorimetry".

The runner-up was Mr. Leonard Klaus from the Physikalish-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB, Germany), Ms. Cynthia Zhu from the National Measurement Institute of Australia (NMIA) having been placed third.

Ms. Natalia Burmistrova, another young researcher from VNIIM, obtained the prize for ″the best poster″.

All winners received commemorative awards and prizes.

At the closure of the event the Judging Panel made special mention of a high level of all presentations submitted to the Competition.
