The 22nd Meeting of the Consultative Committee for Units (CCU) held at the BIPM (Sevres, France)

On 15 - 16 June 2016, the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM) hosted the 22nd Meeting of the Consultative Committee for Units (CCU). The meeting was attended by 48 representatives of international organizations (CODATA, IAU, ICRU, IEC, IFCC, IUPAC, IUPAP, OIML, CIE) and National Institutes for Metrology, including experts from PTB, NIST, NIM, NMIJ/АIST, as well as representatives of 7 Consultative Committees.

The Federal Agency for Technical Regulation and Metrology, Rosstandart (member of CCU), was represented by Dr. Leonid F. Vitushkin, Head of Gravimetry and Advanced Projects Laboratory of D.I. Mendeleyev Institute for Metrology (VNIIM, St. Petersburg).

During the Meeting, the latest developments and experiments related to definition of values of fundamental constants required for approval of the revised SI were discussed. In addition, attendees discussed CCU recommendations to the BIPM regarding the future revision of the SI, including the draft resolution of the General Conference on Weights and Measures (CGPM), as well as the latest 9th edition of the brochure "SI - International System of Units" to be published upon approval of the new SI definitions by the next CGPM in 2018. The CCU meeting adopted a number of Resolutions concerning the work that remains to be done in order to finalize the preparation of the new SI. Some provisions were recommended to the Special Working Group on Promotion of the new SI to be guided by. The next (23rd) CCU Meeting will be held on 5 - 7 September, 2017. It is anticipated that the new definitions for SI units will be adopted on International Metrology Day (May 20) in 2019.
