The D.I. Mendeleev All-Russian Institute for Metrology (VNIIM) news

Participation of VNIIM in the European Metrology Programme for Innovation and Research (EMPIR)

In September, 2016, VNIIM has joined the TracePQM project (Traceability routes for electrical power quality measurements) carried out in the framework of the European Metrology Programme for Innovation and Research (EMPIR). The project involves 13 EURAMET Member States and their industrial partners. Czech Republic acts as its Coordinator.

The project was created to combine efforts and competences of National Metrology Institutes and industrial partners in solving the complex metrological task to ensure the uniformity of measurements of electrical power, electric energy, and electrical power quality at distorted electrical current and voltage signals. The main objectives of the project are:L

  • development of a modular standard system based on digital processing of sampled current and voltage signals;
  • development of an extendable software platform for the standard system with a number of intrinsics allowing evaluation of the measurement uncertainty;
  • investigation and verification of the tailored solutions;
  • development of appropriate calibration methods to establish traceability to the SI primary standards, and working out of a good practice guide for production, certification and operation of the system;
  • development of a long-term strategy aimed at implementing the traceability system for measurements of electrical power, electric energy, and electrical power quality at the national level to be followed by each participant.

    The Electrical Power Laboratory of VNIIM will be directly involved in the realization of this Project.
